Walking tour of St. Mary’s (full day)

It is easy to understand how the Isles of Scilly have invoked such a devoted fan base today. Admire long stretches of altering coastline and envisage St. Mary’s past as you stroll through the fortified garrison walls. Soon, Star Castle comes into sight, built in the shape of an eight-pointed star and faithful to its purpose to defend, this Elizabethan fort occupies high ground. Incredible views across the sea and surrounding islands are sure to spark a longing to revisit these shores time and time again.

Tresco Abbey Gardens (full day)

As the Gulf Stream drifts towards the Isles of Scilly, it carries with it warmer climes. The resulting humid climate has enabled exotic plants, that would otherwise perish on the mainland, to flourish into a cacophony of colour.

Journey to the neighbouring island of Tresco where complex pathways adorned by cacti, Mexican yuccas, mimosa and Chilean wine palm await you at Abbey Gardens. The tall windbreaks and enclosures house a remarkable range of plant species from around the globe, the tropical garden alone is home to some 80 varieties.

Star Garrison (half day)

Take an in-depth look into this former military outpost whose origins date back to the 16th century. A reminder of a time when Europe was riddled with conflict, it acts as an important historic site today, many of its features and structures are still in their almost original form.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

St. Martin’s (full day)

Stroll through fields of flowers and ramble over wild heath during today’s included excursion - a boat trip which takes you to St. Martin’s, the third largest of the Scilly Isles. The rugged cliffs and tranquil beaches of these shores have a soothing quality.

OR

St. Agnes (full day)

Accustomed city dwellers will note the reinforced sense of community that prevails in the smaller inhabited island of St. Agnes. This inconspicuous isle, which extends just one mile in length is home to a community of only 72 people. The curving white sand bars and weathered granite cairns which grace this coast are complemented beautifully by the tranquil sounds of the wind, waves and native sea birds. You will reach St. Agnes by boat.

Please note that operation of these boat trips is subject to weather conditions and the programme may vary.

Day 6: St. Mary’s/UK
