Galapagos cruise tops list of travel experiences

4th Oct 2011 by Page & Moy

Cruising the Galapagos Islands has emerged as the top travel experience for Britons following a survey by Wanderlust.

Announcing the results of the poll, the magazine noted that the island's animal inhabitants have never learned to fear man, meaning they continue to behave normally while visitors look on.

This provides an "incredible, up-close-with-nature experience", according to Wanderlust.

Travellers taking cruise holidays in South America can combine trips to the Galapagos Islands with a tour of Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

Wanderlust's survey to find the top 100 travel experiences highlighted the powerful appeal of nature and wildlife for Britons, with activities such as learning about lemurs in Madagascar and seeing Iguacu Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil featuring in the top ten.

Editor-in-chief Lyn Hughes said: "The top 100 is voted for by the general public and as such it is a great barometer of what is driving the travels of adventurous Brits in 2011.

"From adrenaline-fuelled pursuits like white-water rafting in Nepal to the awesome experience of Jordan's Wadi Rum under the stars, the list contains a wide range of unforgettable travel experiences."
